Smoking and it's effects on particular organ

Hello guys, how are you all ? In one of my recent blogs I had written about smoking and now we will discuss effects of smoking in detail. Smoking acts nearly any and every organs of our body. And it is one of the leading cause of preventable death world wide. Most affected part from smoking is lungs b'cause it has a direct contact with all the chemicals and carcinogens present in the smoke. Another ones are mouth, larynx, pharynx, trachea and oesophagus. B'cause this all the organs are directly in contact with smoke.

Lungs

First of all we will discuss about lungs. Smoke is directly comes in contact with particles of lungs and it damages airways and small air sacs. Smoke damages lung from the day 1 of smoking but it will not completely destruct the lung in starting phase of smoking but things may get worsen day by day and symptoms may get diagnosed long after initialising smoking. Smoking damages the lungs and may lead to serious life long disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In the later part we will discuss all the pathologies related to lungs.

COPD is one of the common effects of smoking found on lungs. COPD includes five respiratory diseases but chronic bronchitis and emphysema are commonly found. Smoking is one of the common cause of COPD. Noises in the chest like wheezing, rattling and whistling, shortness of breath and coughing up mucus is common symptoms found in COPD. Smoking damages the small airways of lungs which makes it hard to breath properly.

Tobacco smoke has many particles in their smoke which inflames and irritates the upper airways and lungs. Causes persistent cough which is known as smoker's cough.

Heart

Smoking also affects heart and blood vessels, increases the risk of heart attack and cerebrovascular stroke.

Smoking causes high blood pressure due to which patient is unable to do daily activities and there are more tendency to blood clot in smokers. Smoking also decreases the level of good HDL cholesterol in patient's blood. This all contributes to cause damage in the patient's blood.

It is also one of the causative factor for coronary heart disease (CHD). In which heart can't supply the enough oxygen to it's own heart muscle. CHD is one of the main cause of heart attacks due to myocardial ischaemia.

Smoking also increases the risk of aortic aneurysm due to weakening of wall of aorta.

Digestive system

Smoking affects nearly all parts of digestive system and increasing the risk of disorders like heart burn, peptic ulcer, crohn's disease and gall stones.

Heart burn is commonly found in smokers due to weakness of lower esophageal structure. Some studies shown that smoking reduces the level of bicarbonate produced by pancrease to reduce the acidity in duodenum which is responsible for peptic ulcers in smokers. Studies also shown that peptic ulcer are less likely to heal in smokers. Crohn's disease is also more likely to occur in smokers than non smokers.

Reproductive organs

Smoking will also harms reproductive organs and causes infertility in both male as well as females. Smoking will affect the hormone production and dna in sperm and ova.

Smoking can damage any of existing blood vessel in the body. And blood flow in the penis is the key part of male ejection. So the smokers are at higher risk of getting ejectile dysfunction. Smoking can also reduce the sperm count and sperm motility will make a man infertile.

In female, there are increased chances of carcinoma in the reproductive organs like cervix and breast. And it will also release the ova early from the ovary.

Brain and mental health

After just 10 seconds of smoke nicotine and other chemicals started to reach the brain. And starts its effects on brain. Like nicotine improves mood and concentration and it relieves mental stress. Person feels very relaxing after smoking. But regular doses of smoking becomes the habit forming and once you get addicted if you try to quit it then withdrawal symptoms starts appearing.

Nicotine increases level of dopamine in blood which is involved in triggering positive feelings. And if person tries to quit smoking then it will lowers the level of dopamine. So person feeling low and depressed.

Effects on the other organs of the body

• Lowers the immunity

• Increases the peripheral resistance to insulin (Type 2 diabetes)

• Stimulates the premature ageing

• Lowers the bone density

• Higher the risk of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis
